Rules & privacy

OpenBored. An anonymous place to waste your time. Conversations, projects, arguments, and whatever else catches your attention.

The house rules

Disagreement, unpopular opinions, swearing, and criticism are welcome. Offense alone isn’t a reason to remove a post.

Don’t flood the board, threaten people, publish someone’s private personal information, or upload unlawful material. Don’t use this place to prevent others from having a conversation. The owner moderates concrete abuse and disruption.

Report a post if something needs attention. A report goes to the moderator; it doesn’t automatically remove content.

Threads drop off

Boards keep a limited number of threads, initially 50. The first 100 accepted replies bump a thread. Later replies stay put. New threads push out the least recently bumped threads, including pinned ones. Nothing disappears just because the board is quiet. There is no public archive.

Names are just names

Posting needs no account. Leave the name empty to be Anonymous, or pick any name. Names aren’t reserved or verified, and two people can use the same one.

Privacy, plainly

Posts, names, timestamps, and attached images are public. Anonymous means your identity isn’t shown to other readers; it doesn’t mean this website provides network anonymity. The server and hosting provider can receive connection information.

A first-party cookie gives your browser a random identifier. The server stores a keyed hash for posting cooldowns, report limits, and temporary restrictions. This can link your posts internally, but it isn’t included in public page data. Daily keyed hashes of connection addresses are used for generous network limits; raw addresses aren’t stored in the board database. The reverse proxy does not keep access logs. Short-lived system, SSH, and hosting-provider logs may still contain connection information.

There are no advertising trackers or required third-party scripts. Names, saved threads, hidden threads, and theme preferences can be stored in your browser. Clearing browser data clears those preferences. Images are re-encoded to remove embedded location metadata; visible information in the image is still public.

Access and moderation

VPN users are welcome. Posting restrictions initially apply to a browser, not a verified person, so they can be bypassed by clearing cookies. They’re a lightweight tool for a small community, not a guarantee against determined abuse.

The owner can remove posts or threads, pin or lock threads, and temporarily restrict posting. Deleting an opening post deletes its thread and replies. Private recovery backups may retain content later removed from the board. They are not publicly searchable.
